The Author

Who?

My name is Jono Davis.

Born in Brooklyn, raised in New Jersey, and transplanted to California; I’m what many would consider a most motile vertebrate. A rather unqualified blogger, I am also a student, cyclist, mechanic, songwriter, pervert, vegetarian, kopimist, feminist, scientific humanist, and contrarian.

My interests include fast bikes, slow food, philosophy, biology, d.i.y. or die, free culture, internet piracy, Sunday afternoons, and books about the same.

What?

Though I’ve been tampering with the web for more than a few years, the most similar ancestor of this site began on Blogger in the fall of 2006. Currently at version 2.5, this site serves as an online journal, or “blag”, with additional pages for cataloging music I have produced. The site as a whole also serves as a sandbox for me to explore web design and publishing, and as such, is subject to my naïveté. It’s untested across different platforms and browsers, anything but valid, and only slightly prettier than an out-of-the-box blog, but it’s mine!

Like I said, this site may not conform to W3C validation standards for xhtml or css. This isn’t because I think web standards aren’t import, they really are! I just don’t really know what I am doing. You are using a modern and standards-compliant browser, aren’t you?

The name “meat machine” was affectionately awarded to me by my brother, and suggests that I am a cyborg, a meld of flesh and mechanical apparatus. At this point, this remains only figuratively true.

How?

Currently, all that you see is published using Wordpress (v2.7 RC2), a free semantic content management system. It is visually arranged using WhiteWash 1.3 by PressWeb Design. The Wordpress plugins I use include Akismet to kill spam, Twitter Wordpress Sidebar Widget for tweet integration, and wp-typogrify to make some typographic details a bit more pleasing. Hosting provided by Strangecode Internet Consultancy.

For the most part, I compose posts with MarsEdit and edit code with TextWrangler. All of this is done on my warm MacBook Pro.

Sharing is caring!

I am a strong advocate of a shared and participatory culture. All of my writing, photography, and music is available under a Creative Commons BY NC SA license, unless otherwise stated.

This means you are free to copy, distribute, display, perform, remix, and make other kinds of derivative works so long as I am credited, you don’t try to make money off of it, and anything you make from it has the same CC license applied to it. Please, turn my nouns into verbs.
